Mattie Lee Hemby was born December 16, 1920 in Greenville, NC to the late James and Louise Hemby. She departed this life on Friday, December 26, 2008 after a brief illness at Sibley Memorial Hospital.
Marnette Agnes Jackson, a long time resident of the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area, passed away peacefully March 26 in Florida at the age of 95.
Calvin Brooks was born on July 23, 1925 in Washington, D.C. to Leo and Mary Brooks. He was the fourth of six children, consisting of brothers Wilbur, Carlton and Irving, and sisters Leonora and Delores, who have all preceded him in death. His parents early on instilled a love of learning and music.
Cedric F. Jackson, second son of the late William and Eliza Jackson, was born on Dec. 24, 1930 at Columbia Hospital in Washington, D.C. He is predeceased by his brother Vincent Jackson. He was baptized at Incarnation Catholic Church.
On the morning of Oct. 5, Jean Hortense Theresa Butler Acorns, beloved wife of the late Leo M. Acorns, peacefully entered into eternal rest.
Casey Andre Israel was born on June 4, 1966, in Silver Spring, Md., to Constance Israel and the late Freddie Israel. Casey peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sept. 15 at his residence in Mt. Airy, Md.
Ronald Bernard Tillman, a beloved son, brother and friend suddenly departed this life on Sept. 25.
Tillman, known to some as “Bud” and others as “Knot” was born on Aug. 1, 1950, at DC General Hospital to Bernice and Jesse Tillman Jr.
Dr. John Francis James Clark Jr. was born on Dec. 8, 1922, in Charleston, W.V. He was the second of five children born to John F. J. Clark Sr. and Hattie E. Clark.
Martha Ann Carter --“Terry”--was born on Jan. 14, 1925, in Washington, D.C. She died peacefully on Sept. 27 at age 83, after a nine-year bout with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
On Nov. 1, at 10:00 a.m., colleagues and co-workers in the field of education joined with family, friends and church members at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1500 Ninth Street, N.W. to celebrate the life of Dr. Marla Coleen Clark Oakes.
Katherine F. Thomas, 95, was born in Spartanburg, S.C. and moved with her family to Washington, D.C. as a child. She is a retiree of the Department of State where she worked for 28 years as a foreign staff officer in the language services division. She died of kidney failure on Sept. 3 at her home in D.C.
On July 13 at Gilchrist Hospice Care, Julius Tyrone Boardley peacefully departed this life and began the journey to his eternal home. He was born on July 20, 1951 to Julius Boardley and Lola Boardley-Foster. He was known by his family and friends as “Ty or T-Bone.”
Robert Eugene Everhart was born in Washington, DC on May 28, 1950 to Bessie Thomas-Kelly, who was an instrumental part of his life. He was reared by his grandparents, the late James and Sallie Mae Everhart. Mr. Everhart graduated from Macklin High School...
Daniel Leander Merrifield Sr., affectionately known as “Dan” by many, was the middle child of Sarah and Leonard Merrifield of Collinsville, Ill. At an early age, Daniel lived in West Virginia with his parents, brother and sister.
Coleman Reed Tuckson, D.D.S., a native and lifelong Washingtonian, was born to Coleman and Estelle Tuckson on Sept. 2, 1923. Educated in the D.C. public school system, he attended Armstrong High School and was active in the Cadet Corps.
Albert (“Al”) David Witherspoon III was born on Nov. 9, 1976, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Albert David Witherspoon II and Bonita Louise Witherspoon. He was the second child born to his father and the only child born to his mother.
Willie Ruth Duncan, born July 20, 1915, to the late James Hudson and Minnilee Williams of Columbus, Georgia passed away from this life on July 3, 2008. She received her elementary and high school education in Columbus, Georgia.
