Hello, everyone. How are you all doing? Due to some technical difficulties, my column did not run last week, but I didn't forget you. So here I am this week to let you know some of the things that happened.

It was a very busy month last month and this month looks no different. Tell me, what do you think? Are we going to have a long, cold winter? If nothing else, I do believe we have had enough rain to last another season.

Whatever the weather, there is still a lot of entertainment going on.

‘THE GUESTS SHOUTED AND WERE HAPPY’

If you were in the mood for stomping your feet, clapping your hands and jumping up and down, you should have been at Frederick Douglass High School last Sunday.

It was the "Big Anniversary Celebration" of gospel legends featuring Willie Neal Johnson's Gospel Keynotes with Teddy Cross, The Southern Gospel Singers from Washington, D.C., gospel comedian Rob Richardson, Joe White and Company singing their gospel hit "There's A Blessing,” The New Mighty Wonders, Sister Margie Briggs and Singers, The Tones of Joy and The Crusaders of America Choir from the Powerhouse World Ministry Tour.

The celebration was Nov. 8 at the Frederick Douglass High School, 2301 Gwynn Falls Parkway in Baltimore. Renowned radio personality Doresa Harvey of Heaven 600, Robert Wilson and James Stephney served as emcees for this outstanding extravaganza. Honey child, it was truly out of sight.

Carlos Hutchins, who has established the Dorothy J. Hutchins Scholarship Fund in honor of his mother, will host a bull roast on Nov. 15, at the Forum Caterers on Primrose Avenue, 4-8 p.m. Your ticket will include a full buffet, open bar and live entertainment. For more information call 410-340-2002 or 443-801-1100.

The Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority invites you to a week-long event featuring a historical exhibit of photographs, posters, documents, newspaper clippings and memorabilia. It is open to the public on Nov. 8-16. The exhibits are open to the public from 2-5 p.m. at The Ivy Family Support Center, 3515 Dolfield Ave. For more information call 410-367-6750 or 410-654-9894.

Are you tired of dealing with the same malls and shopping centers to do your Christmas shopping? Well, dear friends, I have a suggestion for you. How about going to the "Big Apple" to do your holiday shopping and catch a show at the same time? Nov. 27-28 Stella Fullwood will provide the transportation to New York. Just give her a call at 410-542-2530 or e-mail her at stella@fullwoodtravel.com.

BALTIMORE’S OWN WAYMON LEFALL TRAVELS TO AUSTRALIA

Many facts about the contributions of African Americans have not been included in American history books. One author made it a personal quest to tell the tale of one young boy remarkable journey through slavery. Renowned Baltimore barber-turned-author Waymon LeFall, whose shop is located at 2020 Edmondson Ave., brings attention to the largely unknown, but extraordinary story of young Jocko, "The first African-American Child Hero."

LeFall brings what he calls, "a missing piece of African-American history" to light in his children's book The Legend of Jocko, Hero of the American Revolution. His book shares the little known inspirational story of a 12-year-old African-American boy named "Jocko" who sacrificed his life for our country. From book signings, school appearances, and community events, LeFall strives to provide insight into "Jocko's" bravery. LeFall has discovered that the legend of Jocko is also a legend in its own rights in the land down under.

Jack Paten, a historian and songwriter from Australia, was intrigued with LeFall's story of triumph, and after numerous conversations, invited him to speak to the people of this small, but significant city about the legend of the little Negro boy whose statue stands in front of a neighboring store. LeFall made that journey Nov. 8. He will share his views about the legend of Jocko, and describe why he believes it is important for the world to know his story.

I will share more on this historic trip when he returns.

GET WELL WISHES: Biddy Wood, the retired journalist, music promoter and lover of jazz, is now undergoing rehabilitation at Keswick on 41st Street. He can be reached at 410-246-7241.
