Alice Irene (Rosie) Turner was born January 12, 1916 in Anne Arundel County, MD. She was one of 9 children. In 1940, she fell in love and married the late James Edward Parker in Lothian, MD. They later moved to Washington, DC, where Rosie began attending Peace Baptist Church. The late Reverend Stewart A. Davenport baptized her there in 1945.
Rosie lived in River Terrace for over 50 years. She loved children and found her calling babysitting for family members and friends. Her house became the loving home away from home for several generations of children. Although a strict disciplinarian, she always let you know how much you were adored. Bus trips to Hershey Park and the Yorktown Fair were perennial favorites.
She survived all three of her children, Irving Belt, Richard (Joe) Powell and Shirl Ann Parker. She leaves to cherish her memory her grandson Shaun Parker, brother, Charles Turner, Vera Springs, who she raised and loved as her daughter, 2 daughters-in-law, Sarah Belt and Catherine Powell, as well as 12 much loved grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, a beloved friend whom she referred to as her “play brother”, John Jackson, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
