(September 20, 2009) - President Barack Obama has requested New York Governor David Patterson refrain from running in the coming election for governor, the New York Times has reported.
According to the report, Patterson is seen as a hindrance to the Democrats in Congress.
Patterson is one of only two Black governors in the country, but has had his share of problems since taking over the state from disgraced former Governor Eliot Spitzer.
Patterson’s tenure as governor so far as done little to endear him to the voters or the White House. Patterson stepped to the forefront while the nation’s eyes were on New York and announced his own marital troubles, locked down the state assembly to resolve a dispute, appointed a Democratic member of the House of Representatives to the Senate to replace Hilary Clinton, and recently made comments about how attacks on his administration are racial.
