(September 20, 2009) - Results from the 2009 SAT show scores by Black test-takers, “trail every other major ethnic group in the United States,” according to a report in the Journal of Blacks In Higher Education.
The chart presented by JBHE, with data from The College Board, show African-Americans average an 855 combined math and verbal score, 47 points below the next highest ethnic group.
According to the data reported, Asian-Americans have the highest average with 1103, with Whites next at 1064. African-Americans fall 248 and 209 points respectively behind these groups. The report states that American Indians and Alaska Native students score 10 percent higher on average than African-American test-takers.
These scores indicate that the decline in African-American scores continues and the resulting disparity between White and Black scores, according to the report, is the largest in 20 years.
