(October 01, 2009) - Coppin State Lady Eagles sophomore Ashley Saunders earned her second straight volleyball tournament honor on Sept. 26 at the Bryant Invitational at Chase Center.
Saunders put up a stellar performance, despite the Lady Eagles falling to both Howard University and Bryant University during the Invitational tournament.
Coppin State lost to Howard (25-15, 25-11, 25-13), then fell to Bryant (25-14, 25-16, 25-15), but Saunders still paced the Lady Eagles with an outstanding 17 kills and 27 digs in two matches.
She had eight kills and 10 digs against the Lady Bison, then followed with nine kills and a career-high 17 digs against Bryant.
Although Saunders shined, the Lady Eagles still haven’t won a game this season, dropping to 0-17 for the year. They’ll face Winston-Salem State on Oct. 2 at the Coppin Center.
