(October 4, 2009) - The Morgan State Bears put up their best offensive performance of the season on Oct. 3 during a 24-13 road victory against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at Daytona Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The win was Morgan State’s third consecutive victory, giving the Bears their first 3-1 start since 1996.
The win was in the Bears’ paws when...
MSU quarterback Carlton Jackson hooked up with Edwin Baptiste on a 19-yard touchdown pass that pushed the Bears to a 24-13 lead to close the third quarter. Morgan State’s defense held the Wildcats scoreless in the fourth quarter to earn the tough road win.
Outstanding Player(s) of the Game:
The Bears kept the Wildcats out of the end zone in the fourth quarter, thanks in part to senior linebacker George Howard, who recorded 17 tackles. It was the third straight game Howard snagged at least 17 tackles.
Bears quarterback Carlton Jackson completed 10 of 18 passes for 104 yards and the game winning touchdown pass.
Game Notes:
The Wildcats put up 283 rushing yards against the Bears but struggled in the air, passing for just 60 yards on the day. BCC’s lack of balance on offense contributed to the Wildcats falling to 0-4 (0-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) this season. This marks the first 0-4 start by the Wildcats since Alvin Wyatt took over as head coach 13 seasons ago.
BCC will travel to Delaware State on Oct. 10 to take on the Hornets. That day, the Bears will try to improve to 4-1 when they take on North Carolina A&T at Hughes Stadium during Morgan State’s homecoming.
