Hello, everyone. I am praying the fall weather has not brought you the flu or that nasty cold. If so, drink plenty of fluids, rest and don't let anyone get on your nerves. If you are well and able in the next couple of weeks, I have something for you.
I received a letter recently about Baltimore's own community advocate Maria Broom and her health problem. I received the letter too late to put it in my previous column, but I want to inform you that over the years she has made a profound impact on the community as a dancer, actress and teacher. She has served this community as an artist and educator for many years, and in the process has impacted thousands of lives. Her friend Stacie Sanders said, "I know Maria because she is a Young Audiences artist and together we have brightened countless classrooms and auditoriums and brought an important message to our children of lfetayo ~ Love Brings Happiness."
What you may not know is that over the last year Maria has experienced some serious health problems which required multiple surgeries and months of recovery. Maria, like many artists in our community, earns a living working contract to contract. In the last year, she lost nearly four months of work due to her recovery. That loss of income, as well as significant medical bills, have been financially devastating. Maria has persevered through this difficult time, which she credits to the many friends who have reached out to help her.
Stacie Sanders organized a benefit in her honor a couple of weeks ago at School 33 Arts Center in Baltimore City. If you would love to still help Maria financially or in other ways, please contact Stacie at 410-837-7577.
