Great news. For the "home boys and girls" from the West Side, "John Shaft" is back at the Roots Unltd., 2148 Vine St. (corner of Smallwood Street) every Saturday from 4-9 p.m., rolling back the time in music on his turn table. Ronnie Jackson, the establishment’s owner, is rolling back the prices. The kitchen is open as always with home-cooked, delicious food. Oh, let’s not forget their Monday “pig foot night” with Maria and Dave and Friday’s “fish fry day.” Check them out and enjoy.

Don’t forget to check out the blues show on Oct. 17 featuring Janiva Magness, Mikey Jr. and Stone Cold Blues at the Rosedale American Legion Hall, 1331 Seling Ave. For more information call the Baltimore Blues Society at 410-744-2291.

Komen Maryland sponsors grants that increase the number of women receiving annual mammograms and clinical breast exam screenings. Komen grants also target the entire range of breast health services from transportation and financial support to clinical trials and national research to find a cure. I mentioned this in my column because it is important to your health. I want my friends and readers to take part in this any way you can. For more information, go to www.komenmd.org.
